On the agenda at this year’s EDFN National Conference is what is set to be an engaging debate, ‘Amputation or limb preservation?’, with Professor Alok Tiwari speaking in favour of limb preservation.
Prof Tiwari, a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham, will be joined by podiatric surgeon Matt Mee, who will argue the case for ‘positive’ amputation.
From Prof Tiwari, delegates will learn more about how limb salvage can save lives.
He is a Visiting Professor of Vascular Surgery at Birmingham City University and Honorary Associate Professor at University of Birmingham.
Professor Tiwari received specialist registrar training in London including at King’s College Hospital and Royal Free Hospital in both general and vascular surgery.
He worked in Singapore for 12 months to further develop his skills in dealing with complex diabetic foot disease and advanced endovascular angioplasty for limb salvage, to avoid leg amputations.
Professor Tiwari was instrumental in the development of the diabetic foot service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham; has more than 110 published articles in journals in many aspects of vascular surgery; and is the current training programme director in vascular surgery in the West Midlands.
