It is with great sadness that the EDFN shares the news that Dr Bob Young died last month following a short illness.
Dr Young served as a diabetes consultant at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and was the National Diabetes Audit (NDA) Lead. His leadership led to the inception of the NDA in 2003 and it became substantive in 2008. Since then, the NDA has produced a wealth of population level data that is raising the standards across all areas of diabetes care. The National Diabetes Footcare Audit (NDFA) became part of these data sets in 2014. The NDFA data has shown causes of variation of lower limb pathology outcomes and how these need to be addressed.
Richard Leigh, Chair of the EDFN, said: “The NDFA has produced data driven findings and recommendations to improve the outcomes in morbidity and mortality for those with diabetes and foot pathology. It has given the lower limb clinical community the information that is vital to improving their services for which we owe a great debt to Dr Young.”
The thoughts and sympathies of the EDFN are with Dr Young’s family and friends at this time.
