Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist

The post holder will have the responsibility for undertaking speciality services for patients who require diagnosis/assessment and/or investigation and/or treatment including woundcare management of high risk groups (prodominently patients with diabetes) as part of the service.

Depending on experience, the post holder will act independently in the management of an often complex and chronic caseload for those practicing at an Advances Podiatrist (band7) level.

For those practicing at a band 6 level, additional support and competencyguidance will be provided by the Principal Podiatrist and senior clinicians. Once competencies completed, the candidate will have the opportunity to progress to an Advanced Podiatrist. This will be assessed via competency interview.The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosis and treatment planning for these patients.

This will involve use of imaging and investigations andanalysis/interpretation of results. It will involve knowledge of all possible multidisciplinarytreatment pathways and appropriate referral to these pathways.

Examples of treatment pathways include Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Team Service, Rheumatology and Tissue viability services.

The post holder will be expected to advise GP’s, District nurses and practice nurses on ongoing care of patients, which may include medication management, where appropriate.
