New awards to recognise UK’s diabetes nursing heroes

A new awards programme designed to celebrate the UK’s diabetes nursing heroes has opened for entries today.

The inaugural Diabetes Nursing Awards has been launched by leading communications, events and medical education agency Orange Juice Communications to recognise exemplary contributions to diabetes care and highlight leading individuals in the field.

The event will also provide a platform for nurses to share best practice and contribute to the advancement of diabetes care and education.

“We hope to give these dedicated nurses the chance to enhance their own professional reputation and the opportunity to share their best practices and contribute to the advancement of diabetes care and education.”

The categories for this year’s awards are:

  • Secondary Care Nurse of the Year
  • Primary Care Nurse of the Year
  • Innovation Award
  • Paediatric Nurse of the Year
  • Diabetes Educator of the Year
  • Service Improvement Project of the Year
  • Research Project of the Year
  • Rising Star Award

The awards will be judged by an independent panel of experts from Trend Diabetes, DSN Forum UK and DISN UK Group.

The deadline for entries is midnight on Friday, March 29, and the shortlist of finalists will be announced on Friday, April 26.

The event will culminate with a dinner and awards ceremony hosted by Dr Sarah Jarvis MBE at Thistle Marble Arch London between 8pm and 11pm on Friday, June 7.

Dr Jarvis is well-known throughout the UK, appearing regularly on radio and television to offer advice on all manner of health issues. For the past 17 years she has been the resident doctor for the Jeremy Vine show on BBC Radio 2 and regularly joins Jeremy on his Channel 5 programme.

She also appears as the guest doctor on Good Morning Britain, BBC World News, BBC Radio 4, Radio 5 Live, Channel 5 News and LBC. Dr Jarvis spent 10 years as ITN’s Lunchtime News Doctor and writes regular columns for My Weekly and Good Housekeeping.

Entry to the awards is free and finalists will be invited to attend the awards ceremony for free.
